On the Editors

Hans Günter Brauch (Germany): Dr. phil. habil, Privatdozent at the Faculty of Political Science and Social Sciences, Free University of Berlin, since 1987 chairman of Peace Research and European Security Studies (AFES-PRESS), an international non-profit scientific society. He was guest professor of international relations at the universities of Frankfurt on Main, Leipzig and Greifswald and at the Teachers Training College in Erfurt. From 1976-1989 he was research associate at Heidelberg and Stuttgart universities, a research fellow at Harvard and Stanford University and he was also teaching at the universities of Darmstadt, Tübingen, Stuttgart and Heidelberg. He holds a Dr. phil. degree from Heidelberg University and a habilitation from the Free University of Berlin.

Publications: He has published more than 30 books and 20 research reports in English and German on security, armament, climate, energy and migration policies and since the 1970s two edited books and many articles on confidence building measures in several countries in English and German. Antonio Marquina (Spain): PhD, since 1985 professor of international relations at Complutense University in Madrid (CUM), founder and director of the Research Unit on Security and Cooperation (UNISCI) at CUM. He has been the director of 14 research projects on European, Mediterranean, North African and Caucasus security and on Spanish foreign and security policy. From 1996 to 1997 he was the first president of STRADEMED, a network of research institutes working on security, defence and development issues in the Mediterranean.

Publications: He is the author, editor and co-author of 72 books and reports on these issues in English and Spanish, among them several on CBMs in the Mediterranean. Abdelwahab Biad (Algeria): doctor of law from Grenoble university, since 1994 Associate Professor, Faculty of Law, Economics and Management, University of Rouen in France where he is a member of the Center for Research and Study on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law; Assistant Professor of International Relations, Institute of Law, University of Annaba (1987-1994) where he chaired the scientific council of the institute and headed the research unit on human rights and humanitarian law. He was a visiting fellow at UNIDIR (1988) and at the ICRC in Geneva (1992) and at the Hague Academy of International Law. With Luc Reychler he is a co-convenor of the IPRA Study Group on conflict resolution and peace building.

Publications: He is the author of 32 book chapters and articles in English and French.
