The Mediterranean Space and its Borders Geography

This book offers geographic, historic, geopolitical, geostra-tegic, geo-economic and geo-ecologic analyses of the Euro-Mediterranean space with a special focus on the Barcelona Declaration (1995). Five chapters discuss possibilities to ex-pand this space towards the Arabian peninsula, the Cauca-sus region, to Iran and the Sahel given the impact political developments in these regions have on the Mediterranean region. The book was written by recognised security specialists, political scientists, economists and military officers from Algeria, Egypt, France, Germany, Israel, Spain and Turkey. It also documents a brain-storming among the speakers on enlarging the Barcelona space.· on the Editors · on the authors · contents (in English) · order form (printout for ordering by FAX).

Euro-Mediterranean Partnership for the 21st Century

Collection Strademed, Vol 8. Macmillan Press, Basingstoke - London, 504 pages, June 2000, £ 55,00, ISBN 0-312-77838-3

Tittle Euro-Mediterranean Partnership for the 21st Century

Edited by Hans Günter Brauch, Privatdozent at the Free University of Berlin, Chairman of AFES-PRESS, Antonio Marquina, Professor of  International Relations at Complutense University in Madrid and Director of UNISCI and Abdelwahab Biad, Professor, University of Rouen in France with the language assistance of Peter H. Liotta, Professor at the U.S. Naval War College, Newport, RI in the USA

In this book security experts and peace researchers from North Africa, Europe and the US analyse the evolution of the Euro-Mediterranean process between Barcelona (1995) and Stuttgart (1999), and offer proposals for confidence- and partnership-building measures among the twenty-seven countries. The contributors review the Northern debate and Southern perceptions of the four trans-Mediterranean security dialogues of OSCE, NATO, WEU and the EU and, in two case-studies on Bosnia-Hercegovina and Cyprus, they discuss the relevance of this concept for conflict resolution. Finally, they propose short-, medium- and long-term partnership-building measures and projects and a code of conduct for good Euro-Mediterranean relations for the twenty-first century.

Tittle Regenerativer Strom für Europa

Proceedings on a workshop organised by the Hamburger Climate Fonds (HKF) with support from the Institute for Solar Energy Technology (ISET) at Kassel University on 30 September 1998 in the conference centre of the German Physical Society in Bad Honnef.

During this workshop technical and scientific experts presented what the long-distance transmission of electrical energy could accomplish and what sources of electricity from solar energy, wind and hydro power for Europe it could thus make available from North and Central Africa and from Iceland. It shows the possibility for imported electricity from renewable sources to contribute in sufficient quantity to the base load for about 15 Pf/Kwh and below. It was discussed what national interests the exporting countries may have in mind and what political assistance they might get from the German Government for exporting solar generated electricity for climate reasons.
